4. Exposure, hues, sats, levels, sharpened fill layer.

5. To create this photo I blended three photos together and used the overlay-blending mode in Photoshop. Later, I added a brown fill layer to add the sepia feel. Where the light hit the black keys it printed really, really blue. I added some adjustment layers and adjusted the exposure, hues, sats and levels. Then I used the brush tool with white paint to paint the edits in. I played around with a burned border, but with the dark color on the left upper corner it looked better without it.  I finished by added a sharpening filter. Printing this image was not much short of a nightmare! It came out purple the first time and then the super blue light on the keys caught my eye. After going in and doing some minor edits it came out how I wanted. I selected this photo because I feel inspired by piano music and thoroughly enjoy playing it.

HDR

Masonic Temple: To create this HDR shot I blended three separate shots, with different exposures, together in Dynamic photo. I took these shots using a tripod therefore the alignment was already practically perfect. I didn't have to make any changes on it at all. I used the strong setting and adjusted the brightness, dramatic light and vivid color sliders.

1. Light; 2/22/2011 12:42 pm; 1/1000; f/4.5; Flash did not fire; Canon PowerShot A520
2. Medium; 2/22/2011 12:43 pm; 1/1000; f/6.3; Flash did not fire; Canon PowerShot A520
3. Dark; 2/22/2011 12:44 pm; 1/1250; f/8; Flash did not fire; Canon PowerShot A520

Tools HDR: To create this HDR shot I selected the pseudo option. I tend to like the more vibrant, strong HDR photos. I bumped up the saturation and brightness almost as much as possible.

Bannack: Reverse Shallow Depth

1. View from around the corner; 2/22/2011 3:30 pm; 1/200; f/8; Flash did not fire; Canon PowerShot SD790 IS.

One of the two cameras I have takes better macro shots. I focused the shot on the tree and fence, then backed up and added the corner of the log cabin into the shot. My reverse shot unfortunately did not turn out. I thought I focused on the cabin, but all the shots I came home with had the tree and fence clear. I took this picture into Bridge and did some basic camera raw edits: clarity, vibrance, saturation and brightness.

Bannack: Macro Abstract

Dusty Springs: I blended the Spring photo with the texture photo of paint. I changed the opacity of the Spring photo so as to see a little more texture. I then followed a tutorial in the book to add a burned border for a more professional finish.

Green Rock: I followed the same procedure as above to get this blended macro shot.

1. Green Rock original: 2/22/2011 4:26 pm; 1/30/ f/2.6; Flash did not fire; Canon PowerShot A520
2. Springs: 2/22/2011 4:25 pm; 1/8; f/2.6; Flash did not fire; Canon PowerShot A520
3. Paint: 2/22/2011 12:14 pm; 1/100; f/3.5; Flash did not fire; Canon PowerShot A520

Bannack: Action Blur & Freeze

1. Ghost; 2/22/2011 12:50 pm; 5; f/3.2; Flash did not fire; Canon PowerShot A520
2. Jump; 2/22/2011 12:59 pm; 1/320; f/8; Flash did not fire; Cano PowerShot A520

I had a lot of fun with the ghost shots. It takes a little practice to get down. I knocked my f-stop down quite a bit to bring in the little light that was in the room. I practiced with different shutter speeds and 5 worked the best for me. I took the photo into photo shop and did some minor edits to the saturation of the colors and added a burned border.

I like this action freeze shot. Thanks to Jake for jumping so much! I took this photo into photoshop and added a black and white adjustment layer and a mask. With a really low opacity and the brush tool I brought back a little bit of color. I think this photo really gives off a "ghost town" feel.

Bannack: Portraits

1. Barn; 2/22/2011 11:45 am; 1/1250; f/3.2; Flash did not fire; Canon PowerShot A520
2. Portrait; 2/22/2011 1:30 am; 1/160; f/4; Flash did not fire; Canon PowerShot A520

I had a lot of fun taking portraits. I had a hard time finding the right light but with some experimentation, I had a couple pretty good shots.  For the photo taken outside of the barn I did some edits on clarity and vibrance in camera raw. For the second portrait shot I also did some minor edits and added a burned border for a more professional look. I could use a lot more practice in the seating/posing of models in portrait shots.
